This is where maximum number of tourists visit. These beaches are usually crowded on tourist season (super crowded on long weekends). However, there are plenty of activities, cafes, places to stay. Expect to pay tourist price for everything.
North Goa: Beyong Baga, there are beautiful beaches at the wee end of the north. Consider Arambol, Ashwem, Mandrem. They remain pristine and away from the hawk eye of vendors.
South Goa: Away from everything, South Goa holds the true secret of freedom, which gave Goa its fare share of fame. beaches, forts, hikes and plenty of unexplored regions lies here. If you seek quaint, you must visit South Goa!
Panaji: The capital of Goa, houses only a couple of local beaches. Panaji is where you will be heading if you are in Goa for work. Despite a lack of beach life, Panaji is famous for old Latin quarters, UNESCO heritage churches and vibrant local life.Goa also houses India’s only casino ships close to its shoreline. Since gambling is prohibited on Indian land, these casino ships are permanently anchored on the sea. They ensure even the rough waves of monsoon very well. I visited Deltin Royal Cruise on the fateful night of Cyclone Kyarr and did not feel a thing. The next morning, the fallen coconut trees of the Ashwem beach narrated the story.
Anyway, experiencing a cruise liner is a prized deal. The ship has various games on-board and forms of entertainment aside a large buffet. Sparkling goblets of wine galore everywhere. I did not find the food amusing though. If you like to party the night away, the Cruise liners of Goa will be your best choice How To Reach Goa By Air
Being a popular tourist destination and an unwinding spot, Goa is well connected to all the major cities in the country by air. You can avail regular flights to this tropical paradise from cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi and Chennai. However, the fastest way to reach Goa is to take a flight from Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai which takes approximately an hour to reach.
The Dabolim Airport in Goa is located around 26 kilometres from its capital city; Panaji. As the tourist season arrives, this aerodrome also receives international flights even though it is mainly served by domestic airlines. The airport also provides currency exchange, prepaid taxi counter and ATMs along with the basic amenities. To keep you busy as you await your flight, the airport also has food joints and shopping centres within its premises. People travelling internationally usually fly into major cities such as Delhi and Mumbai and then transit into a domestic flight with airlines such as Jet Airways, IndiGo, SpiceJet or Air India.
There are also a few Russian, German and British charter companies that offer direct flights to the Dabolim Airport during the months of November to February.
It would be advisable to book your tickets well in advance, especially if you are travelling in the peak season. Goa is packed during the summer and the New Year season. Hence, make sure you book your tickets and accommodation well before time to get cheap deals.
Air India is identified as the national carrier and also the safest airline to the destination. However, one can choose between any of the following airlines to travel to Goa - Jet Airways, SpiceJet, IndiGo and Vistara. Upon arrival, individuals can avail of the bus taxi or hotel shuttle to reach their required destination.
How To Reach Goa By Railways!
The long Konkan Railway deemed to be 760 kilometres stretches all the way from Mumbai to the north and Mangalore to the south. However, Margao’s Madgaon Railway Station is the biggest station and strongly linked to other parts of the country through a vast train network. Regular trains run from Delhi to Madgaon, the important ones being Goa Sampark Kranti Express and Trivandrum Express. The Madgaon Railway Station is located approximately 38 kilometres from the capital city. Another railway station is the Vasco da Gama station that is 29 kilometres away. Taxis will be available as soon as you make your way out of the station. The rail is a rather inexpensive way to travel and you will reach your destination in approximately six hours and 24 minutes. With the main railway station being in Madgaon, which is North Goa; try to take a train that stops at Thivim if you plan to travel to the North Goa beaches like Anjuna, Baga, Calangute, etc. Travelling to Goa by train is a treat to one’s eyes as the scenic locations and lush green trees whiz past you.
How To Reach Goa By Road
Ever since we have watched Dil Chahta Hai, a road trip to Goa has been on our bucket list. Hire a car and drive down to this beach paradise as the salty smell of the sea fills your senses and scenic locations rush past you. The easiest way to travel by road is from Mumbai which is just fourteen hours away. The fastest route however from Mumbai is via National Highway 4, which takes you from the Mumbai – Pune Expressway to Belgaum and then to Goa. State and private buses also run to and from Goa to various cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Hampi. However, we suggest you take the train instead of the bus because of the unpredictable traffic.

Sure you want to have a good time and follow your own way of travel. Those, who are all into leisure, for example, may look for a place to relax, a beachside resort, when travelling someplace in South India. But you also want to live that experience, that vibe, that the place you’re visiting is popular for.A big sightseeing day today. Up early and set off to Kanyakumari - the sourthernmost tip of India after enjoying an Indian breakfast of egg curry and noodles (a kerala special).A brief overview of what we saw (I wont bore you with the detail - you'll have to put up with the photos when we get back!!!). We started off at Padmanabhapuram palace, on to Suchindram temple and then Kanyakumari.
Things that stood out for me in the course of the day were:-
Indian visitors get charged rs25 to visit the palace - 'foreign tourists' get charged rs200 - bit of a rip off me thinks given rough guide says its rs50...My efforts to haggle were to no avail however with the ticket office simply saying 'government change to charges'.. Pete almost refused to go in but given we'd made it there I paid and stomped in - I'm glad we went but I have to say it was nothing special - pete reckons the good stuff (furniture and paintings etcI have to say that i was disappointed that I couldnt see where the 3 seas met - I dont know what I expected really - there was never going to be a big sign was there!
It was a long day of sightseeing then back to our hotel which is brilliant - staff are attentive and have good senses of humour (or perhaps I just think they're funny when they're trying to be really professional about things)- its filling up now as well so the season here is starting. We're heading back to Varkala tomorrow - I wonder how many of you guesssed that was going to happen - its so peaceful there and we both need a bit more time to chill out before we get on the real tourist trail! I've just started to be able to stop thinking about work - its actually been harder than I thought!

Lakshadweep and its beauty
Lakshadweep is in the news everywhere as our PM Narendra Modi himself promoted the tourism of our own country India and invited many other people of coutry to see beauty of our country .Lakshadweep is consider better than Maldives.Though the Lakshadweep archipelago may appear as a few insignificant dots on the map of India, it is, in fact, a sparkling diamond- and emerald-studded jewel adorning India’s southwestern frontier. It is one of the few marvels left untouched by the encroaching hands of industrialization and progress.
The white beaches, the lagoons that wash its shores with the coral reefs which enclose it, and finally the deep blue sea-all these are symbiotically linked with each other. And, when all these are added up, Lakshadweep is no longer the tiniest of India’s territories but the largest!Location
While the total area of the 35 islands is a mere 32 sq km and the area of the lagoons enclosed by the coral reef about 700 sq km, the extended sea zone is more than 7,00,000 sq km! This almost makes it the size of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh put together!
Out of the 12 atolls with 35 islands, only one island in each of them is inhabited. All the islands are shaped like a boat with their backs resting on the reef in the east and lagoons washing their shores on the west side. The lagoons are shallow, never more than a couple of meters deep. Just as the sands on the beaches are pure white and sugary, the waters of the lagoons are crystal clear and clean.
Best Time to Visit
The white sandy coastlines, abundant scenic charm and tranquil surroundings make Lakshadweep a popular family as well as honeymooning destination. It is visited by tourists from all around the globe. The best time to visit Lakshadweep is between the months of September and May, when the weather is pleasant and conducive for water sports activities. The temperature remains between 22°C to 36°C and one can partake in adventures like surfing, swimming, canoeing, snorkeling, scuba diving, water skiing, kayaking and so on.
After the summer months, monsoon rains between June and August, make the place even greener. The peak season in Lakshadweep is from December to February.Lakshadweep Island can be reached by ships and flights operated from Kochi. For all tourist purposes Kochi is the gate way to Lakshadweep.
Agatti and Bangaram islands can be reached by flight from Kochi. Indian Airlines operate flights from Kochi. Onward flights from Kochi are available to most of the airports in India and abroad. Airstrip is there in Agatti island only. From Agatti boats are available to Kavaratti and Kadmat during fair season October to May. The flight from Cochin to Agatti takes approximately one hour and thirty minutes.Six passenger ships - MV Kavaratti, MV Arabian Sea, MV Lakshadweep Sea, MV Lagoons and MV Corals operate between Cochin and Lakshadweep. The passage takes 14 to 18 hours depending on island chosen for journey. The ships offer different classes of accommodation: A/C First Class with two berth cabins, A/C Secound Class with four berth cabins. A doctor is available on call on board.
PORTS provide comfortable A/C & Non A/C accommodation in the islands and onboard the ships. The tourist cottages in the islands are clean and well maintained. For certain packages like Samudram, overnight accommodation is provided on board the ship. The tourists cottages in the islands are built on the beach front and provide a breath taking lagoon view. Food provided is hygienic and wholesome. During day visits to islands, food is served ashore. While catering to all the comforts of the tourists, intrusive ultra modern gadgets have been avoided by design to provide a really exclusive get away feeling.

Amritsar
Amritsar is easier to reach than you might think (see my getting there section below) despite being well off the Golden Triangle tourist trail – which is a reason in itself to visit.
Most famous for the Sri Harmandir Sahib (better known as the Golden Temple), Amritsar boasts a historic and charming old city with great food and friendly locals to boot. As a solo female visitor I found myself at ease here and loved wandering the city for a few days soaking up the ambience and history.
Just a stones’ throw from the Pakistan border (and the only place that international visitors can cross between the two countries), Amritsar is filled with the history of partition, but it’s also filled with the smells of bazaars, tea stalls, fresh lassi and kulfi, cycle rickshaws winding along the narrow old city streets, and some of the friendliest locals I’ve found in this part of India. How to Get to Amritsar
Amritsar has both an airport and a busy railway station, as well as a bus station that connects it to other cities in Punjab and neighbouring Himachal Pradesh. I arrived by bus from McCleod Ganj (Dharamshala), but most visitors arrive by train from Delhi.
The best train to take from Delhi is the daily Shatabdi express train (12013) which gets you from New Delhi to Amritsar in under 6 hours. Other Amritsar train options run too but take longer. How Long to Spend in Amritsar
There are enough things to do in Amritsar as a tourist to keep you entertained for several days. At a minimum I’d suggest 2 days here, but you could happily find enough places to see near Amritsar to extend that to 4 days+ if you wanted.
In this Amritsar travel blog I’ll cover the main things to do and see during your visit to Amritsar.Where to Stay in Amritsar
Accommodation in Amritsar is scattered around the new and old cities, with many of the more upscale, modern hotels being further away in the new city. Amritsar old city hotel options tend to be small, budget focused guesthouses, but the advantage of these is you can walk easily to the temple, great restaurants and other attractions.
Places in Amritsar to Visit
When planning your Amritsar sightseeing, you’ll want to factor in that there are several famous places in Amritsar that you’ll want to visit (see our section on how long to spend in Amritsar. Of course, the Golden Temple is likely to be top of your list of Amritsar tourist places, but remember there’s more to Amritsar than the Golden Temple when planning your visit.
The Golden Temple
When planning what to see in Amritsar, depending on how much time you have, I suggest starting with the Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib, meaning “abode of God”). If you have the chance, it’s great to plan two visits here – one during the morning / day time, and one at night to see it all lit up.
Located in the old city of Amritsar, Amritsar was named after the temple and its holy pool – Amritsar means the pool of immortality. After the pool was excavated in the 1500’s, the city of Amritsar grew up around the pool and temple. The “Golden Temple” is the inner temple (surrounded by a moat-like pool) where the holy book of Sikhism is kept. To get into the inner temple, you’ll need to wait in a queue which can get busy, depending on the time of day.
One of the central philosophies of Sikhism is seva – which means selfless service, and the Golden Temple is one of the most inspiring places in the world to see the scale of the operation which is fully run by volunteers who staff the enormous kitchensDo not miss the opportunity to taste lungar in one of the lungar halls which serve over 100,000 people a day for both lunch and dinner. Food is served throughout the afternoon, but the main meal times are 12-2pm and 7-9pm. Food is vegetarian, delicious and simple – expect dal, chapatis and vegetables. Everyone is welcome regardless of faith and it’s an experience not to be missed (food is hygenically prepared and safe to eat).
When visiting the Golden Temple, dress modestly – shoulders must be covered as well as legs (no shorts or knee length pants/skirts) and heads must be covered for both men and women at all times inside the temple complex. Shoes are left outside the temple at the shoe storage desk.

Mussoorie
Over 6500 feet above sea level, on a ridge in the Garhwal Himalayas, lies the town of Mussoorie. Despite having been established less than 200 years ago, its strategic location was a major factor in establishing its significance. It serves as a rest stop for adventure seekers preparing to climb the higher mountains beyond, as well as Hindu pilgrims traveling on the revered "Chota Char Dham Yatra" to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. For almost 19 kilometers, the powerful Yamuna and Ganga rivers flow past Mussoorie's two sides.Uttrakahand's capital city, Dehradun, is connected to Mussoorie. It's close to Delhi and can be reached by bus up the north in about 6 hours.
Getting a bus from Kashmere gate is incredibly inexpensive; an AC Volvo bus will set you back about 600 rupees. It will be half the price for government buses or non-AC buses.Company Garden is a well-liked tourist attraction in Mussoorie city. It is about 3 km from Mall Road. The lush greenery of company garden with more than 850 types of flowering plants, a fountain in the lawn and a greenhouse nursery attracts tourists to this place.
Also, there is an artificial mini-lake with paddle boats for people. It has its own food court serving mouth-watering food and snacks. People come here to stroll and sit in the garden and have a telescopic view of Himalayan Mountain at a cost of Rs 10 only. There are many good hotels/hostels in Mussoorie which are less expensive. The hotels can be booked in the range of Rs 1500-3000/night for two people. The hostel can be a book under Rs 600/person for one night. I have been to below hotels/hostels.The best time to visit Mussoorie for pleasant weather is from April to June. If you want to enjoy winter or snow fall, December to February is the best time. July and August are the monsoon months and it is not recommended to visit Mussoorie. Always check the weather of the place before planning the trip.Mussoorie is one of the loveliest hill stations to visit. This is my travel guide on how to enjoy the trip to Mussoorie. Now it’s the time for you to enjoy the place and let me also know in the comment section when you visit.
Visit here again when I shall be back with more happening places in our country.

Shimla
Even though the British departed Shimla a long time ago, it still has the same importance. This location continues to draw thousands of visitors annually from all across the nation due to its breathtaking beauty, which is unchanged from a century ago.If you, too, were considering a vacation to Shimla in the near future, I will offer some fast planning advice in this piece. Naturally, a number of circumstances, such how you are traveling, how many days you have, and when you are going, will affect your final travel itinerary; nevertheless, there are a few items I have included in this post that will apply regardless of all of these. Why Travel to Shimla
But the reason Shimla is so popular with thousands of travelers is that it's ideal for all types of vacations. Many find the city to be a charming getaway, whether they are families, adventure seekers, or newlyweds. Filmmakers and cinematographers have been drawn to this hill station by its enchanted beauty in large numbers. This former British summer capital has numerous magnificent historical churches and institutes, like as Christ Church and the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, that help to preserve its colonial-era beauty.
It is easily accessible by road, so getting here is not an issue. The wide range of lodging options is another excellent factor. You can easily locate lodging in Shimla regardless of your budget. Even while the city is enough elevated generally for snow to fall here, you never really get up to a point where it is uncomfortable or you run the risk of getting severe altitude sickness. In summary, it's the ideal place for a quick weekend escape with friends as well as a family vacation.
How to get by road to Shimla
Let's first examine the route that you would take to get to Shimla if you were driving a car or motorcycle of your own. I'll assume you were starting from Delhi in order to illustrate the path. However, only the trip to Chandigarh might be different if you were traveling from a different city.
How to Travel by Bus to Shimla
Regular bus services connect Shimla to other areas extremely well. Almost all of the larger cities in North India have daily buses, so it will be very simple to find one. Every day, buses run by HRTC and HPTDC leave Shimla for locations like Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, etc., and vice versa. Regular buses are also offered by private travel organizations and other state transportation authorities.
How to Take the Train to Shimla
Getting here by train, however, will be even more enjoyable and superior. Yes, I'm talking about the well-known toy. From Chandigarh or Delhi, you can take a train to Kalka, where you can board the Toy Train. The 96 kilometers of the trip take over 7 hours to complete on a narrow-gauge rail route. Please refer to How to Plan a Trip by Shimla Kalka Train for additional information.
What Shimla Has to Offer
There are many tourist attractions in Shimla. You won't be done with it all even after spending days here. Certain locations are in the town itself, like Kufri, while others are a little outside of it. You could even travel a little further to see locations like Narkanda and Thanedar, which are even more serene and stunning than the main town.

Landsdown
Lansdowne is a small cantonment town nestled in the laps of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand. This hill station is situated on the Kotdwar – Pauri road at an attitude of 1,706 meters from the sea level. Described as the gateway to the heavenly abode of Himalayas, Lansdowne is one of the most unusual hill stations in India.
Lansdowne is one of the most quietest and the most unspoilt hill stations that has been famous since the time of the British colonial rule. Lansdowne is well connected by motorable roads to the major cities in Uttarakhand but it is remote in its own way. Covered by a thick spread of oak and blue pine forests on all the sides, Lansdowne remains a favorite spot for people who wish to getaway in the serene arms of nature.
How to reach Lansdowne :
